80 Years of Serving Our Community

From a church basement in 1946 to a trusted community credit union today — thank you for being part of our journey.

Since 1946, Fremont Federal Credit Union has been built on one simple promise:
people helping people.

As we celebrate our 80th anniversary, we’re proud to reflect on the growth, milestones, and members who have shaped who we are today — and excited for what’s still to come.

Our Story

Fremont Federal Credit Union was established in 1946 as St. Joseph Parish Credit Union, operating from the basement of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In those early years, growth was steady and driven by a strong sense of community and trust.

By 1976, the credit union reached an important milestone, surpassing $1 million in assets. The following year, in 1977, the charter was amended to become a community credit union, and the name was changed to Fremont Catholic Federal Credit Union, reflecting its expanding reach.

In the early 1980s, the credit union adopted the name it proudly carries today — Fremont Federal Credit Union. During this time, growth accelerated, and new services were introduced to better serve members’ evolving financial needs.

Growing Together

Growth has always been rooted in collaboration and community partnerships. Over the years, Fremont Federal Credit Union has welcomed several mergers that strengthened our organization and expanded service to more members:

  • 1985 – Merger with Basic Donomite Employees Federal Credit Union

  • 1990 – Merger with Moore Fremont Federal Credit Union

  • 1991 – Merger with St. Boniface Credit Union of Oak Harbor

  • 2004 – Merger with Fresco Federal Credit Union

Each merger brought new members, shared values, and a stronger foundation for the future.

Expanding Our Reach

In 2016, Fremont Federal Credit Union expanded its charter to include all of Ottawa County and parts of Wood and Seneca Counties, allowing us to serve even more individuals, families, and businesses across the region. Today we serve 7 counties, which include: Sandusky, Seneca, Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Hancock, and Fulton.

Today, we continue to grow — not just in size, but in impact.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate 80 years, we remain committed to the same values that started it all:

  • Community-first service

  • Financial empowerment

  • Long-term relationships built on trust

The future of Fremont Federal Credit Union is bright — and we’re grateful to have you with us every step of the way.

Thank you for 80 years of trust, loyalty, and community. Here’s to the next chapter!
